IBHADODE, Prof Akaehomen Okonigbon Akii

Professor Akaehomen Okonigbon Akii Ibhadode was Born September 13, 1957, Akii Ibhadode is an erudite and distinguished Professor of Production Engineering from the University of Benin. A 1987 Doctorate degree holder in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. A scholar of no mean repute, Prof. Ibhadode was the 2010 winner of the Nigeria Prize for Science sponsored by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) for his innovative work titled; “Development of a New Method for Precision Die Design.” He rose to the rank of a Professor in October 1999 at the University of Benin having also begun his lecturing career as a Graduate Assistant from same University in July 1982. This egg-head obtained a First Class degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981 at the University of Lagos, Akoka. While lecturing at the University of Benin he obtained his Master in Engineering degree in 1984 specialising in Manufacturing Engineering before proceeding on a study leave to the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom for his Ph.D. He has held diverse key positions including Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Benin from where he attracted various funds to the University especially to the Faculty. He has many awards to his kitty which includes, Edwin Walker Prize for 1988 of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, United Kingdom for the research paper entitled; “The Effect of Billet Location in Completely Closed Cavity Die Forging”; Most Innovative Design Award of the South African Shell Eco-Marathon for the UNIBEN Shell Eco-marathon car, Eco-cruise raced at Kyalami Racetrack, Midrand, South Africa, in October 2014. Earlier in 1987 he was awarded the Commonwealth Academic Scholar for an excellent work for his Ph.D studies at the University of Birmingham, UK. Prof. Ibhadode is a distinguished fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science (FAS, 2012); Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, (MNSE, 1991); Chartered Engineer, 1992, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He has several publications to his credit and has supervised innumerable undergraduate and post-graduate thesis as well as undertaken many professorial assessments. Incidentally, Prof. Akii Ibhadode was a member of the Implementation Committee of the Federal Government for the commencement of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun between 2007 and 2008. So, he is naturally coming to a familiar terrain, where he helped initiate. He is therefore bringing his inestimable experience to bear in the Federal University to further advance the transformation effort of the Governing Council. He has envisioned to key into the vision of the University as he is set to work towards making FUPRE to rank among the top 500 World Universities as premier international institution of first-choice for “world-class education, training, research, consultancy and extension services” in the Petroleum industry. Prof. Ibhadode who is also a Pastor of the Church of God Mission International hails from Irrua in Edo State. He is married with children.
