Born in Kano in 1954, Dr. Jibrin Ibrahim received primary education at the Roman Catholic Primary School Sabon Gari Kano and proceeded to Barewa College Zaria for his secondary education. Upon successful completion, he gained admission into the School of Basic Studies, Zaria and later for the bachelor’s degree in political science at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, which he completed in 1977. In 1983 he completed the M.Sc. programme in the same university before undertaking a Diploma in French, at Vichy, France in 1983. After a postgraduate diploma in International Economic Relations in Paris, France in 1985, he enrolled for the M.Phil degree in political science in Bordeauz, France, completing it in 1987 before proceeding for the PhD in the same University that eventually culminated in the award of PhD in Political Science. For more than twenty years, Dr. Ibrahim served the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he rose from Graduate Assistant in 1978 to the rank of Reader. During the two decades of dedicated service at ABU, Zaria, he served the University in different capacities, including as Acting Head of Department of Political Science and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. After a refreshing career at ABU Zaria, he launched into a career in Research, Advocacy and Training/Capacity building in democracy, human rights, economic governance, legislative and policy advocacy. In his new career, Dr. Ibrahim has served in several capacities, ranging from Director of Research and Document, to Country Director for Global Rights: Partners for Justice and now, Director Centre for Democracy and Development. He has published many books, monographs and articles in refereed journals and has consulted extensively for the UNDP, DFID, and FOSTER, amongst many other agencies. He runs a weekly column “Deepening Democracy” in the Daily Trust, a Nigerian daily newspaper, and has sat on many editorial boards of learned journals. He is happily married and blessed with children.
