Engr. Professor Idike Francis Igboji was born in Ndi-Oke Abi Igbeagu, Izzi, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria on 10thMay 1945.
He holds a B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering (1974) from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana-Punjab, India; M.Sc and Ph.D in Agricultural Engineering (1977, 1981) from University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, St Paul Minneasota, USA.
He is a specialist in Soil and Water Engineering and teaches Agricultural Engineering in the University.
He is a Professor and Registered Engineer. In his own right, he has bagged many academic merits locally and internationally. Professionally, he is an Elected Member of Ghana Sigma Delta (Honour Society of Agriculture), 1977; Elected Member, American Society of Agricultural Engineers (MASAE), 1983; Member, Nigerian Society of Agricultural Engineers (MNSAE), 1983; Member, Council Registered Engineers (COREN) Registration (R2160), 1984 and a Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), (N0 03337) 1989.
He is a seasoned academic who has published so many articles in national and international journals. He has been proven to be a good academic administrator and has served as the Head of Department severally at University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka from August 2004 – February 2005.
He became the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) and Member, Governing Council of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, February 2005 – December 2008; Member, Governing Council, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, October 1998 – June 1999, October 2004 – date. From December 2008, he was appointed the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University the position he holds till now. He also acts as the Chairman of Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian State Universities. On public administration, he has held several government positions among which is Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Member of Executive Council, Government of Anambra State of Nigeria, February 16, 1984 – January 31, 1986. He served as the National President, Nigerian Society of Agricultural Engineers (NSAE 1985 – 1999)
He is married to Barrister Adeline A. Idike and has four children
