Professor Ikonne attended Manila Central University, Philippines, where he graduated with the Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree. He also attended Saint Jude College in Manila, Philippines, for his Masters in Hospital Administration (MHA) and later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental Health Sciences also from the institution
Professor Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne’s professional relevance, viability and resourcefulness warranted his national recognition and appointment as:
• Member, National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Teams
• Chairman/Team Leader, National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Team, 2008
• Chairman, National Universities Commission (NUC) Investigation Panel to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
Professor Ikonne is also External Examiner to the following Universities:
• Imo State University, Owerri
• Madonna University
• University of Benin
• University of Cape Coast, Ghana
As a colossus in the Optometry Profession, Professor Ikonne has made incalculable contributions to his professional body as follows:
• Member, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria from 1993 to date
• Chairman of the Education Committee. 1993 to date
• Chairman, Disciplinary Committee, 2007 to date
• Vice-Chairman, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria, 2009 to date
• Registrar, Nigerian Postgraduate College of Optometrists and so on
• Professor Ikonne deservedly won the prestigious African Optometric Educator Award of the year 2003 and the Distinguished merit Award of the Nigerian Optometric Association, 2006
Professor Ikonne is the author of several books and journals
Professor Ikonne and his wife, Barrister Lady Uzoamaka Ikonne, built a Church hall at St Andrews Anglican Church, Agburuke – Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa Diocese, as well as, expanded the Altar of the existing Church to an Ultra modern one, described as one of the best, so far, in the Diocese.
At the Church of the Good Shepherd, Ehimiri, Umuahia, Abia State Professor Ikonne serves in the Vineyard as the Pastor’s warden
