Sen. Dr. Nnamdi Eriobuna is a Medical Doctor (Physician) and a Politician. He hails from Ihembosi, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State. He was born on 6 th November, 1948. Started his primary school education in Ihembosi continued at St. Peter Clavers Central School Nnewi. He obtained his West African School and Cambridge Higher School Certificates from Okongwu Memorial Grammar School, Nnewi and St. Teresa’s College Nsukka respectively. He graduated with the Doctor of Medicine (M.D) Degree from State Medical Institute, Kalinin (TVER), Russia in 1978. He earned the qualification of fellow international college of Angiology, New York, USA (F.i.c.a) in 1989. On returning to Nigeria after his graduation, he worked briefly as a Senior House Officer in the Department of Medicine of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu in 1979. He later moved to become the Medical Director of Maimuna Allah Ya-Raya Hospital, Kano between 1981 and 1984. As the Proprietor/Medical Director of St. George’s Hospital and Maternity, Onitsha (1984 – 1999), he was compassionate to the patients and dedicated to his duties. He later moved the hospital to the Nations Capital City, Abuja, and has been its Chief Medical Director since 2005. He is also the founder and chairman of Ugondech’s International Limited, an outfit which was incorporated in 1992. Senator Eriobuna foray into politics dates back to 1989. A year later (1990) he was elected as the Treasurer of the Onitsha L.G.A chapter of the Liberal Convention, which was then an unregistered political association. He was the gubernatorial candidate of the National Republican Convention (NRC) for Anambra State in 1990 and a Presidential Aspirant of the same party under option A-4 in 1993. Recently in 2014, he incorporated Divine Healthcare and Aid Foundation, a non-governmental organization for fighting infectious and communicable diseases in the country. His standing in the Nation’s Political terrain indeed, reached climactic height in 1999, when he was elected as the Senator to represent Anambra South Senatorial Zone on the platform of The People’s Democratic Party. Aside from his leadership at various times of two of the most powerful Senate Committees: 1) Senate Committee on Defence (Army, Airforce and Navy) and 2) Senate Committee on Power He was former vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Member Committee on Ethics and Privileges. He was a member of the National Health Insurance Scheme Consultative Committee in 2000 where he represented the Senate. Senator, Dr. Nnamdi Eriobuna was a member of the 2014 National Conference where he represented the Senators’ Forum. He was appointed the chairman of the Health sub-committee of the committee on social sector. On Wednesday the 27 th of January, 2016, he was sworn in as a member of the Governing Board of the National Issues Forum of Nigeria which is a public conversation project led by the Centre for Dialogue, Conversation and Public Accountability in Nigeria. Presently, he is a member of Anambra State’s Elders’ Advisory Council. Sen. Nnamdi Eriobuna used his political clout to benefit his people. He has encouraged several young men and women to join the Nigerian Military. Assisted several brilliant students from his constituency to secure scholarship from the British Chevenin Scholarship Scheme. He belongs to several professional bodies including the Nigeria Medical Association, The Guide of Medical Directors of Nigeria, Catholic Doctors Association, Association of Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, The Royal Life Saving Society of Nigeria and The Commonwealth. He is the Chartered President of the Onitsha Chapter of the Junior Chambers International (JAYCEES) which is a non-governmental organization on worldwide leadership development. In 2009, he was given Development in Nigeria Merit Award by PRS. He is a member of Ihembosi Progress Assembly (IPA). Eriobuna holds four traditional Chieftaincy Titles including Onwa of Umuohi, Ihembosi, Ifeneti of Ihembosi, Okaa Omee of Nanka and Ugodiebube. He won the Golden Jubilee Certificate of Honours in 2002, the year Queen Elizabeth II of England celebrated her Golden Jubilee on the throne. He is married with five children.
