He was educated at St. Mary's High School, Ifite-Ukpo, Anambra State, 1963-67 and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained B.Sc (Hons) in Economics in 1976. He also obtained an M.Sc. in Public Finance in 1980. Mr. Opia is a financial consultant and Managing Director, Apex Finance Ltd. He is married with children. His hobbies are reading, travelling and music.
