Benjamin Uwajumogu (born June 30, 1968 in Okigwe, Imo State, Nigeria) is a Nigerian politician.[1] He is the senator representing Imo North senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate.[2] He is a senator of the 8th republic of the National Assembly in Nigeria. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress Party. After his secondary education, Ben travelled abroad for further studies at Schiller International University, Paris, France and the University of New Jersey City where he obtained an Associate Degree in International Relations and a Bachelors in Political Science and Economics respectively. Ben Uwajumogu joined political activities quite early in life. He was an active member of and a major voice of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Imo State in 1991 where he emerged as the youngest Local Government Party Chairman in the State at that time. Benjamin Uwajumogu contested in the 2011 Imo State House of Assembly election to represent IHITTE/UBOMA Constituency and won on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Peoples (PDP). He was thereafter elected the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly on the 7th of June 2011. Following the National Assembly election rerun in Imo State in July 2016, Ben Uwajumogu emerged the winner of the Imo North Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress defeating the PDP candidate who was declared winner in the previous election, Chief Athan Achonu. Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu is a Christian and is married to Mrs Elleen Benjamin Uwajumogu and they are blessed with three children. Senator Ben's hobbies include meeting people and travelling. Senator Ben Uwajumogu has been recognised with lots of awards and traditional titles including: Industrialist of the Year 2000 Award by the Nigeria Chamber of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Abia State Guardian Newspaper ‘Integrity and Credibility’ Award Best Speakers’ (Nigeria) Award Fellow Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, the Paul Harris Fellow Award by the Rotary Club International, Enugu District. Traditional titles include: Ogbuhuru Uzo Okigwe” (meaning one who brings development) which was conferred on him in one spirit and with one voice by the entire Okigwe zone traditional rulers.
