FIRST MINISTER FOR LOCAL INDUSTRIES Honourable Peter Achimuguwas educated at the Government School, Idah and CMS School Onitsha in the old Eastern Region. Most of his working life was in the Igala NA. He was at various times a fudge of the Customary Court and President of the Upper Area Court. He became a very strong member of the NPC in the belief that a strong membership of the party from the Middle Belt Regon was central to the overall cohesion of the Northern Regional'political'power. The strength of Mr. Peter Achimugu was such that by 1954, he had become a key figure in the politics of the North. The Premier of the North recognisedihepoliticalimportance of this illustrious son of the Igala hence his appointment as the Northern Minsterfor Local Industries in 1952. He also served as the Minister for Natural Resources. Though, he retired from that office in 1957 he continued to be relevant to the administrative machinery of the Middle Belt Zone as he became the Chairman of Igala NA Local Government. Having been a fudge and a Christian, he was appointed a member of the Northern Nigeria Penal Code Reform Commission in 1959 touring such countries as Libya and Pakistan thus becoming one of the architects of the Northern Legal System as it is applicable today. In 1960 together with others he obtained Certificate in the New Penal System of fudicial Administrationfrom the Institute of Administration, Zaria. In October 1960,just after Nigeria's independence, Hon. Peter Achimugu was one of the Northern Nigerians appointed to administer justice in various courts across the North. He became President of the Provincial Courts for Kabba province. It was in the same year that the Federal Government recognised his worth and eminence with the award of the OFROfficer of the Order of the Federal Republic.
