A man deeply associated with humanitarian initiatives and objectives, his giant strides in his chosen career he has also brought to bear in governance where as Deputy Governor. Anambra State, he is combining effectively with his boss Dr. Chris Ngige the Executive Governor lo restore the lost glory Anambra Slate experienced. Under them Anambra Suite presently is on the path of progress. Chief Nwankwo has lived a stainless life in private and public dealings being one who values integrity and abhors sharp practices in any form. Education Born to the family of an itinerant Clergy and Teacher, had his primary education in many primary schools in the Eastern Nigeria and parts ol' the defunct Western Region. Proceeded to the Merchant of Light School Oba. had his WASC in 1959. Between 1963 and 1965. went to Yaba College of Technology, obtained ACCA Intermediate Certificate in Accountancy. Academic Advancement Abroad • In 1965 in quest of the Golden Fleeze left Nigeria for England enrolled at Belham and Tooling College. University of England, and earned a solid ACCA finals. Thereafter joined Howard Tilly Limited, a firm of Chartered Accountants for his pupilage and later becoming a well qualified Chartered Accountant. Work Experience • Returned to Nigeria in 1973. immediately joined Akinlola Williams & Co. a very reputable firm of Chartered Accountants. With hardwork. dedication. Commitment and determination, coupled with perseverance climbed the ladder of his career in this firm diligently until he hit the top. • In 2001. he became the substantive 37"' President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. ICAN. a very powerful and prestigious body ofAccountants in Nigeria and beyond. By this feat, he was a successor to a fellow Igbo man Chief Arthur Mbanefo and thus becoming a second Igbo man to attain this position of ICAN president. • Also acted as Chairman. Governing Council of this body. • Served as Chairman. Accounting Technicians Examinations Board. Service to the State and Nation • As noted, he served as President of ICAN. where he successfully reintegrated Nigeria into the International Federation of Chartered Accountant Congress when the whole world severed relations with her. • Again having served as Chairman Accounting Technicians Examinations Board, his outstanding performance in this board left a record that is yet to be equaled. • Founder, the Accounting Body ofWest Africa (ABWA) Secretariat, a very beautiful edifice in Abuja. • The Institution ofthe West African Accounting Technician Scheme (WATTS) ofwhich the Federal Polytechnic Oko and many other Polytechnics in the South East are Examination Centres today are his brainchild. • Quick introduction of the ICAN's Certificate stamp that produced the Institute's Scale for practicing Accounting was promptly executed. • Served as Commissioner for Finance in Anambra State. I lis tenure brought sanity in that Ministry today. A Sports enthusiast single handedly built a Golf Course in the State Capital Awka. Membership of Professional Associations Member. Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and later served as its president. • Member. Value Added Tax (VAT) Tribunal, Eastern Zone. 2002-2003. • Member. ESUT Business School till date. Member. International Federation of Chartered Accountant Congress. Community Development Efforts • A keen believer in the human enterprise, he lakes delight in the empowerment of people. He had demonstrated considerable commitment in this direction. Established an endowment fund of N2.5 million for a chair in Accountancy at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus. On Sojourn in UK. he showed concern for the plight of his people and pushed for their Socio-economic emancipation. Then he would organize and Co-ordinate the meeting of his Nanka people at I lumphrey Ezeoka's residence because he believed in the strength of unity at its primary level. • A stabilized philanthropist had provided Scholarships to a number ol'Nanka people and several people from poor homes have blossomed to become Chartered Accountants with two people emerging as National Prize Winners. I lad contributed immensely both in ideas and in funds to the development ol'Nanka and the upliftment of"the people. I lelpcd to build the Boys' Secondary School in the Community which today is a place sons ol'Nanka have well improved education. • Championed Erosion control and refurbished the village Church. • Built a Lawn tennis Court for the recreational activities and leisure of the people • Provided access roads in his immediate Constituency Awards and Honours • Fellow. Chartered Accountant National Honour. Order of the Officer of Niger (OON) • Patron. Progressive Movement, a club of young and respected gentlemen responsible for Community Services in Nanka A devout and practicing Christian, Chief Nwankwo is a Knight of the Anglican Church, and Hobbies include Sports. Playing Golf. He is happily married with children.
