FIRST CHAIRMAN, GASKIYA CORPORATION Bom in Sokoto in 1906, Alhaji Abubakar had his early education at the Sokoto Provincial School from 1913 to 1921. In the sameyear, Alhaji Abubakar entered the Katsina Teachers' Training College and his name was the first to be entered in the College Register. On leaving the college in 1927, the Madawaki joined the staff of the Sokoto Middle School as a teacher and taught Geography, History, General Knowledge, Geometry and Arabic, until 1932, when he became thefrrst Visiting Teacher. In 1934, Alhaji Abubakar left the Education Department for Administration, where he was appointed Magatakarda (Scribe) to the Sultan of Sokoto, this post, he held until 1945, when he was again appointed the Sokoto Native Authority Treasurer. In 1949, Alhaji Abubakar was installed the Madawakin Sokoto by the Sultan, Sir Abubakar. He was a Councillor in charge of various departments in the Sokoto Native Authority until early April 1959, when he was apponted thefrrst Indigenous Charman of Gaskiya Corporation. That was not actually the only first that Alhaji Abubakar had scored for his name was the first to be entered into the Katsina Teacher Training College register. He was also the firstNortherner to become a Visiting Teacher as early as 1932 Alhaji Abubakar was decorated with the insignia of Member of the British Empire (MBE) by Her Majesty, the Queen when she visited Nigeria in 1956. During the civilian regime, Alhaji Abubakar was a member of both the Federal Parliament and the Northern House of Assembly. After Gaskiya Corporation he became the Chairman, Broadcasting Company of Northern Nigeria. After the Coup he was appointed member of the Sokoto Local Authority and remained there until his death. He died in 1976 after a brief illness in Sokoto.
