SECRETARYGENERAL: NIGERIANTRADE UNIONCONGRESS; NORTHERN FEDERATION OF LABOUR Malam Ibrahim was bom into the Distria Royalty of Nok injaba administrative area in 1929. \He started,, schoolin his hometown Nok in 1939 and left the ekmentary school in 1943 for Zaria Middk School. He finished in Zaria in 1946 and left straightaway to Kaduna Trade Centre where he wasfiom 1946 to 1951. Sometime later, he was at the Colkge of Aeronautical'and'Automobik Engineering, Chelsea, UKfor training in 1954. Malam Ibrahim Nok started work as an Artisan Grade U in the Samaru Research Centre of the Department of Agriculture, Zaria between 1952 and 1953 and transferred to Mokwa Agricultural'Research Centre in 1955. He later became Technical Instruaor at the Bukuru Trade Centre from 1955 to 1958 and Foreman Grade I with the Nigerian Ekaricity SupplyCompany, KuraFallsfrom 1958 to 1959. Itwas in Kurafalh that the spiritof Trade Unionismfully matured in Ibrahim Nok. In 1959, be became the Field Organising Secretary of the Northern Civil Service Union till 1963, He was Vice President HTVC from 1960 to 1961. He also became the Secretary General of the Nigerian Trade Union Congressfror?t 1962 to 1964 and got ekrted to the powerful position of the Secretary General of the Northern Federation of Labour -aposition he held between 1964 and 1967 when the Militaryput a stop to Labour activities. His involvement in labour took him to most Socialist countries of the world especially the Soviet Union, China, Eastern Europe and Japan. He was in the USSR in 1961 to attend the International Conference in Moscow. He also visited the UK, USA, the Philippines, Canada, Lebanon, Sri Lanka and most of Africa, After the creation of States in 1967, the Ace Trade Unionist was named the North Central State Commissionerfor Establishment and Training and remained there till 1970 when he established his own business.He was however appointed Member, Board of Dirertors of the Ife University Teaching Hospital and Chairman of its Establishment andTraining Committee from 1980 to 1983. Alhaji Ibrahim was turbaned the Wambanjaba and Distria Head of Nok in 1990.
